DEFINITIONS
Charmuese - a crepe back satin, shiny on the front and crepe appearance
on the back, this fabric comes in different weights and is very
drapey and flowing.
Chiffon
- a sheer light weight woven fabric with a soft drape.
China
silk - a light weight plain weave silk, used for lining.
Crepe
- a drapey silk woven from yarns that are twisted before weaving, giving
the fabric a sensuous drape. 4 ply crepe is made from 4 yarns twisted
together and gives a heavier feel and drape.
Devore
satin - this sheer fabric has a woven design in satin; it is a blend
of rayon (for the pattern) and silk (the sheer).
Duchess
satin (also known as peau d'soie) - We use a 100% silk fabric (many
manufacturers use a rayon/silk blend); this is a firm heavy weight
satin woven in the Orient.
Dupioni
- an Indian silk with a firmer drape, it has a distinctive "slub"
horizontally across the fabric; this fabric comes from India and
has a "cottony" feel.
Gauze
- a very sheer diaphanous woven fabric with a very soft drape
Organza
- a lightweight sheer woven fabric with a firm drape.
Silk
satin - a light satin without the crepe back.
Silk
twill - a drapey lining fabric with a twill weave.
Silk
velvet - the pile (fuzzy) is silk with the back of the fabric being
rayon.
Rayon
velvet - the pile and the back are rayon.
Taffeta
- a lightweight silk with a plain weave; this fabric has a firm drape
but is extremely light weight and has a wonderful understated
"pearl" shine.
